29th - 31st August 07

Day 1 - Thurs 30th - setting off from Loch Treig and completing Stob Coire Sgriodain, Chno Dearg and Beinn na Lap and dropping down to the far end of Loch Treig. Running as far as the Lodge then heading up the valley to Larig bothy and returning to Loch Treig via Stob Coire Easain and Stob a Choire Mheadhoin.

It was nicely misty as I set off at 6.20am (having overslept in van !). Navigation and route finding was fine and in fact I really enjoyed these hills.

Setting off up Stob Coire Easain the purpose was to not get benighted on the rocks again (like I did with Steve). I found a much nicer route up but it put me far too far right of the top so that's another recce required. Then over the ridge is easy to Stob a Choire Mheadhoin and down to van at Fersit. 9.5 hours - about 20 miles.

View across to Grey Corries from Stob Coire Easain

Day 2 - Friday 31st - setting off up Ben Nevis and following Ramsay route over Carn Mor Dearg, Aonach Mor and Aonach Beag. Then to find the correct way down to the col on route to Sgurr Choinnich Mor.

It was nicely misty at 5.50am but this soon turned to cold, windy and wet at about 300m and stayed like that all day. I descended too low off Ben Nevis before heading left and ended up climbing back up to Carn Mor Dear Arete which wasn't fun at all. This picture is me having found the arete - not knowing whether to be relieved at finding it or disappointed as I now have to go along it and the wind was getting strong !!

The rest of the run was fine, wet and slippy rocks and buffeted by wind but otherwise ok. I couldn't decide which descent is best and will have to ask and recce again. There was a cairn further up but it looked very steep down that way. The other option would be under this rock.

I descended down into Glen Nevis valley and ran along until the forest where I looked again for the path through the second ride to the road to no avail then jogged along the forest track and took a short cut onto the road further on. 7.5 hours - about 15 miles.

Had customary Pot Noodle and drove home via Truck Stop (J9/10 - M74) - the best !!!
